Carbondale Police Press Release - Aggravated Battery & Mob Action

CARBONDALE – On August 21, 2026, at 8:40 PM, City of Carbondale Police Officers received information that multiple people were engaged in a physical altercation at a Carbondale Community High School District 165 sporting event. The officers who were assigned to the sporting event quickly reacted and were able to de-escalate the multiple individuals who were fighting.
Officers witnessed Kashaad Johnson, 19, of Carbondale, and four juveniles ages 15, 16, 16, and 17 of Carbondale, actively engaged in Aggravated Battery. Officers then arrested Johnson for Aggravated Battery and the juveniles for Aggravated Battery and Mob Action.
Johnson was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing. Three of the juveniles were taken to the Jackson County Jail while awaiting transport to a juvenile detention facility pending a court appearance. The fourth juvenile was released to a guardian.
In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the names of the juveniles will not be released. The Carbondale Police Department continues to work closely with Carbondale Community High School District 165 to investigate this incident.
