City of Carbondale Shares Updated Information on Recycling Drop-Off Locations

CARBONDALE -
In addition to the City’s Curbside Recycling Collection Program, the City of Carbondale provides two recycling drop-off locations or residents to use at their convenience. These locations are also available for residents of apartments or other buildings that are not eligible for the City’s Curbside Recycling Collection Program. The former drop off location at E. Grand Ave. is relocated.

Recycling drop-off locations are at the following addresses:
- Near Fire Station #1 (604 E. College Street)
- Exodus Church (700 S. Oakland Avenue)

Drop-off locations are available 24 hours a day and accept the following items:
- Newspapers
- Plastic Bottles & Jugs (#1s & #2s only, no plastic containers, packaging, etc.)
- Office Paper
- Junk Mail (including window envelopes)
- Glass Bottles & Jars (no tableware, window, or broken glass)
- Magazines & Catalogs
- Books & Phonebooks
- Paperboard Boxes (food & cereal boxes, no waxed cardboard)
- Food & Beverage Cans (steel & aluminum only)
- Shredded Paper (bag in plastic or paper bags)
- Cardboard boxes (waxed cardboard not accepted)
Recycling protocol:
- Please rinse all containers and remove all lids, caps, or bottle tops. It is not necessary to remove any labels. Please no waxed paper or paperboard (i.e., milk cartons)
- Place items to be recycled loose (not in bags or boxes) into the designated recycling trailers
- Do not leave boxes, bags, or other materials outside of the recycling trailers
- Take all items that cannot be recycled back home with you and dispose of as trash
- General not-recyclable garbage is not accepted
- Recycling bins for apartment residents or other buildings not served by the City’s Curbside Recycling Collection Program are available from the Jackson County Health Department; please call (618) 684-3143 ext. 136 for information
