Carbondale Police Press Release - Update Aggravated Battery Firearm

CARBONDALE – On June 19, 2026, at 12:53 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 200 block of West Jackson Street in reference to a gunshot victim.  Despite the life-saving measures by the responding officers and the medical staff at the hospital, the victim, Marshaun Williams, 32, of Carbondale, succumbed to the injuries he sustained from being shot during the incident. The police department extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Williams
 
The second gunshot victim, Brent Battles, 51, of Radcliff, KY, but formerly of Carbondale, remains in stable condition. Battles is in police custody, with charges being determined by the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, but it appears to be the result of a personal dispute. There is no known danger to the general public.  Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at the numbers listed below.  The incident remains active and ongoing.

Prior Release:
On June 19, 2026, at 12:53 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 200 block of West Jackson Street in reference to a gunshot victim. Officers located the victim in a parking lot.  The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.  At approximately 1:00 a.m. a second gunshot victim was dropped off at the hospital by an acquaintance.  The second gunshot victim was treated and is in stable condition.  The second subject with a gunshot wound is considered a suspect in the shooting of the first victim. Both parties involved are acquaintances and have been involved in an ongoing dispute with each other.  No names are being released at this time.
