For Immediate Release
CARBONDALE – On April 17, 2026, at 5:05 p.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 1100 block of East Main Street for a report of deceptive practices.  Officers learned that three suspects, pretending to be employees of a financial institution, accessed multiple victims’ accounts and stole money.  The suspects contacted the victims by phone and convinced them to provide personal financial information. The suspects then used the information to steal money from the victims’ bank accounts.

During the course of the investigation, officers located and arrested two suspects, Dallace Beasley, 32, of Carbondale, and Matthew L. Beasley, 26, of Chicago, for Deceptive Practices.  They were released pending a court appearance, but additional suspects are being sought. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at the numbers listed below. The investigation is active and ongoing.

The police department asks residents to use caution, especially when receiving unsolicited calls concerning personal finances. Don’t trust caller ID since scammers can “spoof” phone numbers to make it look like a call is coming from a trusted source. If you receive an unsolicited call, hang up and contact the organization directly using a number you know and trust. If you believe you’ve been targeted by a scam, report it to your local law enforcement agency. Staying alert is your best defense!

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the City of Carbondale Police Department at (618) 549-2121. You may also call the Carbondale/SIU Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (618) 549-COPS (2677) or the Murphysboro/Jackson County anonymous tip line at (618) 687-COPS (2677). Anonymous tips may also be made by selecting the “Crime Stoppers” tab on this website’s main page. Please help yourself and your county, its communities, and the university campus by using these numbers if you witness or have any information about a crime. Cash rewards for information that leads to an arrest are also made anonymously. Remember, crime doesn’t pay, but Crime Stoppers does!
