CARBONDALE –On March 14, 2026, at 2:09 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 900 block of West Main Street in reference to a burglary alarm. Upon arrival, officers found damage to the entry door, but the suspects had already fled the area. During the investigation, officers learned that three suspects drove to the area in a dark-colored vehicle and parked in the 200 block of North Oakland Avenue at about 1:55 a.m. The suspects exited the vehicle and walked to the business, where they damaged the entry door and stole merchandise. The suspects fled back to the vehicle and, at about 2:08 a.m. drove north on North Oakland Avenue.
On 03-18-2026, officers identified one of the suspects as Clayton R. Haley, 19 of Marion. Haley was located and arrested for Burglary and incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing. Two additional suspects have been identified as juvenile males from Carbondale, but they have not yet been located. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at the numbers listed below. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
