City of Carbondale Shares Final Count of Donations Gathered from the “Share the Love” City Wide Food Drive
CARBONDALE -
During the month of February, Mayor Harvey initiated the Share the Love City Wide Food Drive to gather donations for the Good Samaritan House Food Pantry, Bethel AME “Feed My Sheep” Community Kitchen, and the SIU Food Pantry.
Donations were gathered at the Carbondale Civic Center, the City of Carbondale Police Department, the City of Carbondale Fire Departments, Kroger, and Wal- Mart.
We are thrilled to announce that the total count of donations received were 1,017 items. These items were sorted and distributed evenly between the three pantries.
“I wanted to do this food drive at this time, since there are always food drives around the holidays, yet people are hungry year round.” says Mayor Harvey. “The amount of donations received shows that our community cares year round- not just during a time labeled the season of giving! I want to thank our community from the bottom of my heart for showing up and supporting this initiative the way they did.”
The City of Carbondale extends their thanks and gratitude to the staff and volunteers of these organizations who helped us coordinate this food drive and who work year round to help our community.
