Carbondale Police Press Release - Robbery and Aggravated Battery

CARBONDALE – On February 2, 2026, at a.m. 9:41 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 400 block of West Jackson Street for a report of a robbery. Officers learned the victim, was walking from their vehicle when the suspect grabbed property they were carrying and struck them in the face. The suspect fled on foot with the victim’s property. Officers located the suspect in the immediate area. The suspect was found to be in possession of some of the victim’s property. Officers recovered the remainder of the victim’s property, which had been discarded by the suspect. The suspect, a 17-year-old male from Marion County, Illinois was arrested for Robbery and Aggravated Battery. The suspect was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail pending detention at a regional juvenile detention facility. The victim received a minor injury and was treated at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the name of the juvenile will not be released. The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice Parole also assisted with the investigation.
