Carbondale Police Press Release -Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon

CARBONDALE – On September 8, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers had contact with a 15-year-old juvenile male in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane. Officers observed a part of a firearm protruding from his open backpack. Officers arrested the juvenile without incident and recovered the firearm. Ammunition was also recovered from the backpack.  The juvenile was released to a family member pending an appearance in court for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the name of the juvenile suspect will not be released. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at the numbers listed below.  The investigation remains active and ongoing.
