CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The City of Casa Grande invites residents, businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations and community groups to come together for the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance on Saturday, September 26, from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Peart Park, 350 E. 6th Street.  

The National Day of Service provides an opportunity for communities across the country to honor and remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, by turning remembrance into meaningful acts of service. 

This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. In Casa Grande, the anniversary will be observed through service, reflection and community connection rather than celebration. 

In partnership with local schools, churches and community organizations, volunteers will participate in cleanup and beautification projects at Peart Park and other locations throughout the city. Last year, more than 780 volunteers came together to serve their community through 32 projects.  

Volunteers Needed 

Community members of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Volunteers can choose from a variety of service activities, including: 

• Litter removal and park cleanup
• Painting City structures
• Landscaping and beautification projects
• Indoor service activities for those sensitive to the heat
• Creating cards and letters of appreciation for local first responders and military members serving overseas
• Donate blood

Participants should meet at 7:30 a.m. at Peart Park for opening remarks from Mayor Lisa Fitzgibbons and youth leaders across the city before service projects begin. 

Trash bags will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own when possible, along with a set of gloves. Participants should also bring water, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and a blanket or lawn chair for the opening ceremony. 

Remembering Through Service 

Throughout the event, displays will be available to help attendees reflect on the events of September 11 and the lasting impact of that day. The City's Arts & Culture Commission will host an activity where participants can create cards and write letters of appreciation to local first responders and military members serving overseas. 

The organizers encourage participants to wear red, white and blue as photographers will be on site documenting the day's service activities. 

A free hot dog lunch will be provided for volunteers following the cleanup, beginning at approximately 10:00 a.m. 

The 9/11 National Day of Service is a reminder that even in the face of tragedy, communities can come together through compassion, service and a commitment to helping others.
