CGAlerts: City of Casa Grande Unveils New Mural at Palm Island Family Aquatic Center
Casa Grande, AZ – The City of Casa Grande, in partnership with the Arts and Culture Commission, is proud to announce the unveiling of a new mural at the Palm Island Family Aquatic Center. Created by local artist Kenneth Nlawie, the mural represents a continued investment in enhancing community spaces through both recreation and the arts.
The unveiling will take place on Saturday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Palm Island Family Aquatic Center located at 1115 N Brown Ave, Casa Grande. Following the ceremony, families are invited to stay and enjoy the pool until 1:00 p.m.
This mural project is part of a broader effort to reinvest in the aquatic facility and elevate the guest experience. Over the past two years, Palm Island has undergone several improvements, including a full rebrand, the addition of a new shade structure, installation of a new pool deck, and updated grates throughout the facility.
While the City has recently received approval for a bond to support future projects, this initiative reflects a proactive commitment to reinvesting in existing community assets today.
“Parks and recreation spaces are where our community comes to connect, create memories, and simply enjoy life,” said Brandon Washington, Recreation Superintendent for the City of Casa Grande. “Art adds another layer to that experience—it tells a story, reflects who we are, and creates a sense of place. I believe deeply in investing in spaces that people feel proud of, and this mural is a great example of how we continue to bring value back to our community.”
Public art plays a vital role in parks and recreation spaces, transforming them into vibrant, welcoming environments that reflect the identity and spirit of the community. By integrating art into recreational settings, the City aims to create spaces that inspire connection, creativity, and pride among residents.
“The Arts & Culture Commission was excited to partner with the Community Services Department & the Recreation Division to bring this mural project to life.” said Amanda Stueland, Chair for the City of Casa Grande Arts & Culture Commission. “The Palm Island Family Aquatic Park brings community and family together each summer and beautifying the space only adds to the memories made there each year. Art through murals shows our community pride and adds to the camaraderie within our city.”
The City invites all residents to attend the unveiling and celebrate this exciting addition to Palm Island Family Aquatic Center.
