CGAlerts: Construction on McCartney Road begins Monday, March 16

Construction Begins on McCartney Road Improvement Project Segment 1
Construction on Segment 1 of the McCartney Road Improvement Project will begin on Monday, March 16 and is expected to last approximately eleven months. This first phase stretches from Pinal Avenue to just east of Trekell Road and represents a significant investment in safety, mobility, and long-term growth for the community.

When complete, this portion of McCartney Road will be widened to two lanes in each direction. The roadway will also feature a traffic signal at Fry’s shopping center, and access-controlled median islands designed to improve traffic flow and reduce conflict points, making the corridor safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The project is a full roadway reconstruction. Crews will remove the existing asphalt and install new pavement, along with new curb and gutter, sidewalks, updated street lighting, and improved signage. These upgrades will create a smoother, safer, and more efficient travel experience for residents, businesses, and visitors traveling through the area.

The cost for Segment 1 is $12.3 million, with funding already identified in the City’s Capital Improvement Program.

Future phases of the project will continue the improvements eastward. Segments 2 and 3 will extend the roadway improvements from Trekell Road to the ADOT controlled roadway west of Interstate 10. Funding for these segments will come from the 2022 voter-approved General Obligation Bond.

Once all phases are complete, McCartney Road from Pinal Avenue to I-10 will feature two lanes in each direction, providing infrastructure designed to support continued residential and commercial development in this growing area. The full project is expected to take approximately two years to complete, ensuring the city’s infrastructure keeps pace with future growth.

Construction crews will be working Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists are asked to use caution and drive slowly through the work zone, as crews will be working in the roadway. One lane in each direction will be maintained throughout the project to help minimize traffic disruptions.

The city appreciates the public’s patience during construction and looks forward to delivering a roadway that improves safety, connectivity, and travel efficiency for the Casa Grande community.
