New Bern Alerts
City offices opening Thursday at noon & other updates here
January 22, 2025 6:00pm
The National Weather Service is forecasting single digit temperatures overnight, which will cause roads to refreeze into black ice. They are also forecasting patchy freezing drizzle east of Highway 17. We've checked in with Public Works and they wrapped up plowing and brining at 5pm. They've updated their schedule for salting/sanding roadways and will continue those operations until approximately 8pm. Temperatures will get above freezing tomorrow, so that should help with melting snowy, icy roads. Driving conditions will improve as temps warm, but plan accordingly for your travels. Delay travel plans if you can and if you have to go out, slow down and leave extra following distance. Get the snow off of your car for your safety and the safety of others on the roadway.
City offices will reopen at 12 p.m. tomorrow, January 23, 2025. Essential staff and shift personnel report as directed by their department head.
The New Bern Police Department continues responding to wrecks on our roadways. They've shared with us some improvements to state routes that they've seen in their travels: Highway 70 is fairly clear now as well as MLK Boulevard. They say parts of Glenburnie and Neuse are still fairly icy.
GFL will resume collecting trash and recycling at 10:30am Thursday. They're still planning to be caught up on all routes by the end of the day on Saturday. The landfill will open at noon.
The Stanley White Recreation Center Grand Opening has been rescheduled for Monday, January 27 at 10am.
