Reminder: New Bern Crosswalk Improvement Project Downtown Begins Today
The Craven and Pollock Street intersection is closed for a crosswalk improvement project that is expected to last approximately 2-3 weeks as all four crosswalks are replaced..
The intersection is fenced off with directional signage for pedestrian crossing (see map below). Pedestrian access to all businesses will be maintained but expect restricted vehicle access. Signage has been placed alerting motorists of this closure. Please note there is no pedestrian crossing on Craven Street at the north end of the intersection – this will be a staging area for heavy equipment and project supplies. City Hall will remain open and access to the Craven Street paid parking lot will be maintained.
This project is weather and construction dependent & we will post updates or changes to the construction schedule if any as soon as possible.
Once the Craven and Pollock Street intersection is complete, crews will move to the third crosswalk improvement area at Middle and South Front Street. We will keep you abreast of that timeline. The first crosswalk improvement project along Hancock and Pollock Street was completed & reopened on Friday, May 22.
