Smoke Testing in Your Neighborhood
Please be aware that the City of New Bern Water Resources department will be in your neighborhood September 9 through 12 to conduct smoke testing, from 8 a m to 4 p m each day. Smoke testing helps find sections of sanitary sewer lines that have cracks, leaks or faulty connections that allow rainwater to inflow and infiltrate into the sanitary sewer system. If you see smoke coming out of the ground or the tops of homes do not be alarmed. The smoke is safe, odorless, non-toxic and non-staining. The smoke from the testing shouldn’t get into your home if the plumbing has been installed properly and the traps are filled with water. This smoke testing will occur along:
3000 block of Madison Avenue
3100 block of Madison Avenue
3000 block of Magnolia Drive
2900 block of Magnolia Drive
2900 block of Mason Circle

If you have any questions about smoke testing, please contact Water Resources at 252-639-7562.
