SRPD News Release: Santa Rosa Police Department Announces Grand Opening of New Downtown Substation at Santa Rosa Plaza

Santa Rosa Police Department Announces Grand Opening of New Downtown Substation at Santa Rosa Plaza

The Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its new Downtown Substation at the Santa Rosa Plaza. This exciting development has been made possible through the generous support of Simon Property Group, which has gifted a 10-year lease to the City of Santa Rosa.

The new substation will significantly enhance SRPD's presence in the Downtown Core, specifically Old Courthouse Square, Railroad Square, and the historic West End Neighborhood. The SRPD Downtown Enforcement Team (DET) will be based out of the substation, allowing for faster response times and more opportunities for community engagement. The substation will also be accessible to officers 24/7 for report writing and other investigative needs, ensuring that our team can efficiently serve the community at all times.

Chief John Cregan officially cut the ribbon at the grand opening ceremony on Tuesday, April 8th, which was attended by Simon executives and City of Santa Rosa dignitaries.

"We are very pleased to welcome the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Downtown Enforcement Team to Santa Rosa Plaza, said Kelly Hartsel Regional Vice President for Simon. The Plaza’s General Manager, Danielle Nelson, has worked closely and collaboratively with the police chief, the city manager, and the broader Simon corporate team to provide a central location for SRPD, which is highly visible and easily accessible for officers and the community.  We are proud to contribute to a stronger and safer downtown and Santa Rosa community.”

In the long term, the substation aims to become a resource hub for community members, where they can access information and complete online reports. Plans are also being considered to eventually have a public lobby staffed by a Volunteer in Police Services (VIPS) and a Community Service Officer.

"We are excited about this partnership with Simon Property Group and the opportunities it brings to enhance our service to the community," said Chief John Cregan. "The new Downtown Substation will allow us to be more visible and responsive, fostering stronger connections with the residents and businesses in the area."

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Simon leadership team who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony: Kelly Hartsel, Danielle Nelson, Dennis Harington, Jackie Garcia, Kathy Borg, Dave Willis, Nena Meola, Sandy Malugani, and neighboring business district chair Pauline Block with Downtown Action Organization and Mike Montague, President of Historic Railroad Square. Your support and partnership are invaluable to the success of this initiative, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration to serve the Santa Rosa community.

We would like to also thank City Manager Maraskeshia Smith, Mayor Mark Stapp, Councilmember Caroline Bañuelos, Councilmember Jeff Okrepkie, Councilmember Dianna MacDonald, Councilmember Victoria Fleming, and Assistant City Manager Daryel Dunston for attending the ribbon cutting event. Your commitment to our community helps us strive for excellence in public safety and service. Thank you for being such integral partners in our mission.
