SRPD News Release: Santa Rosa Police Department Increases Patrols for Holiday Shopping Season

Santa Rosa Police Department Increases Patrols for Holiday Shopping Season

To enhance public safety and ensure a smooth shopping experience for all, the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) is increasing its patrols in the downtown core during the busy holiday shopping season. Beginning this week, additional officers will be deployed to focus on high-traffic areas, including Railroad Square, Old Courthouse Square, and the Santa Rosa Plaza, where large crowds and retail activity are expected.
The SRPD will focus most of its patrols on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, when shopping traffic is heaviest. Officers will be stationed on foot to engage directly with the community, provide a visible presence, and address any public safety concerns. The department is committed to a zero-tolerance approach to quality-of-life issues, which includes maintaining safety and addressing disturbances swiftly and efficiently.

Plaza Mall Patrols
The Santa Rosa Plaza Mall will also see increased security as they have contracted with SRPD to provide police officers to supplement their existing security team. SRPD officers will be patrolling the interior, perimeter, and parking garages to ensure the safety of shoppers and employees.

Downtown Foot Patrols
In addition to the Plaza Mall, SRPD officers assigned to the Downtown Enforcement Team (DET) will be patrolling key areas within the downtown footprint, including Railroad Square and Old Courthouse Square. These patrols will provide a visible presence throughout the shopping season and provide community members the opportunity to engage and connect with our officers.

VIP Ambassadors
In addition to SRPD officers, the department will be supported by Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) Ambassadors, who will also be present in the downtown area on Fridays and Saturdays from November 29 through December 24. These ambassadors will work alongside officers during their foot patrols to provide support and assistance to the public. Their presence will further enhance safety and customer service in downtown Santa Rosa.

The Santa Rosa Police Department encourages residents and visitors to be mindful of their surroundings, report any suspicious activity, and enjoy the holiday season in a safe and festive environment. The department remains committed to working collaboratively with local businesses and the community to maintain a welcoming atmosphere during this busy time of year. When you see officers and VIPS ambassadors as you are enjoying the shopping, restaurants, and recreation in Downtown Santa Rosa, please wave or say hello!
