Man Arrested for Possession of a Firearm

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, at approximately 7:10 pm, the Santa Rosa Police Department received a call from a community member regarding people drinking beer at Bicentennial Park, 2715 Range Avenue. The caller was concerned because children playing were trying to play nearby. 

An officer went to the park and saw several people near a bench near Hardies Lane and Ditty Avenue. The officer could see the people were drinking beer in violation of a Santa Rosa City Ordinance. The officer approached the group and noticed one particular individual in the group concealing an object inside of the waistband of his pants. The officer spoke with the group and calmly asked the individual what he had concealed. The person became increasingly nervous and tense, but the officer remained calm and de-escalated the situation. He soon learned the individual was in possession of a firearm.

The officer requested assistance from other officers and continued using de-escalation techniques. Once other officers arrived, the individual was searched, and a loaded semi-automatic handgun was located concealed in the waistband of his pants.

The individual was identified as Marco Antonio Flores, a 22-year-old Santa Rosa resident. Flores was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail for Carrying a Concealed Firearm in Public (Penal Code 25400(A)(2)) and Carrying a Loaded Firearm not the
Registered Owner (Penal Code 25850(C)(6)).
