SRPD News Release: SRPD Welcomes 6 New Employees!

SRPD Welcomes 6 New Employees

Today, Chief John Cregan was able to officially welcome six new employees to the Santa Rosa Police Department! This swearing-in and welcome ceremony followed the SRJC Basic Police Academy Class 213 graduation on Friday, May 24, 2024, where two of our newest officers were part of that graduating class. Officer Maria Lopez-Guzman was hired as a Police Officer Trainee following 4 years as an SRPD Field & Evidence Technician, and Officer Damian Wallace became part of the elite “600 Club” for scoring more than 600 points on the academy’s physical fitness test. Today, they joined their new colleagues for their first official day on the job! Welcome Maria and Damian!

Police Technician Trevor McCarthy was hired to join the SRPD Records Bureau, where he will take on a wide variety of responsibilities such as initiating police reports, review and approve reports and traffic citations, fingerprint crime registrants, handle non-emergency phone calls, and many other additional and collateral assignments. Welcome Trevor!

Field & Evidence Technician Mikayla Erickson came to SRPD from another law enforcement agency and brought with her an abundance of crime scene investigation experience. In addition to processing major crime scenes for evidence, FET Erickson will handle law enforcement field work such as conducting collision, burglary, and theft investigations, as well as have the opportunity for future special assignments in the SRPD Crime Lab. Welcome Mikayla!

Student Intern Alex Ramirez is a full-time college student working toward a career as a police officer. Though he has already decided on becoming a police officer, this internship provides him the opportunity to learn about and work with all divisions of the police department. Interns assist on missing person cold case investigations, assist with fleet operations, dabble in graphic design and video production, and so much more! Welcome Alex!

Lateral Police Officer Tyler Hanks-Hammer came to us after years of working as a police officer for a different agency. The variety of assignments and opportunities available to SRPD officers is what drew him to us, and we are very thankful for the years of experience he has brought with him. Welcome Tyler!

Officer Lopez-Guzman, Officer Wallace, and Officer Hanks-Hammer will go through several weeks of department orientation to learn our policies and procedures, learn our equipment and software, and go through extensive training in firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and procedural justice. From there, they will hit the streets in full uniform for their Field Training Program where they will begin their service to our community under the supervision of a Field Training Officer until they are ready to work as solo police officers.

Best wishes and congratulations to all of our new SRPD employees! The job may have chosen you, but you chose SRPD, and for that we are forever grateful. For more information about a career with the Santa Rosa Police Department, visit https://joinsantarosapd.com/.
