Santa Rosa Man on Post Release Community Supervision Arrested for Stabbing Transitional Housing Roommate
On Monday, May 13, 2024, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) officers were dispatched to an area hospital to investigate a report of a patient being treated for a possible stab wound. The victim, a 34-year-old male resident of Santa Rosa, had walked into the emergency department seeking treatment for a wound to his torso and a laceration to his left arm. Medical staff believed the injuries were the result of a stabbing and contacted SRPD.
Detectives with the SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations Team (VCI) responded to the hospital and learned the victim had been stabbed by a roommate during an argument. The suspect, Tommy Lewis, a 41-year-old Santa Rosa resident, and the victim both reside in a transitional housing residence for people released from correctional facilities on probation, parole or Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS). It is believed the victim and Lewis began arguing inside the home located in the 1000 block of Bennett Valley Road when Lewis stabbed the victim in the arm and torso with a sharp object, possibly a knife. The victim walked to a local hospital where he received treatment for a minor laceration to his left arm and a puncture wound to his torso. Both injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
Lewis was contacted at his residence by SRPD patrol officers and was detained without incident. Lewis was arrested and transported to Sonoma County Jail for the following offenses:
245(a)(1) PC - Felony assault with a deadly weapon
3455(a) PC - Felony PRCS violation
SRPD VCI detectives served a search warrant at the transitional housing residence at approximately 6:30 a.m. Detectives and SRPD Field & Evidence Technicians (FET) collected multiple items of evidence during the service of the search warrant. In addition to blood located in the victim’s bedroom, several items of blood-stained clothing were seized, along with 4 knives. Additional testing will need to be conducted on the seized knives to determine if they were used during this incident.
SRPD VCI detectives are continuing to investigate this case. Additional information may be released at a later time as it becomes available. Santa Rosa Police Department case number 24-5707.
