Officers Recover Loaded Machine Gun During Traffic Stop

On Sunday, May 12, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., an SRPD Officer conducted a traffic stop on a silver Ford Fusion for speeding and unreadable registration tabs near the intersection of West Third Street and Stony Point Road.  During the contact, a rear passenger, 19-year-old Santa Rosa resident Rico Hermosillo-Lozano, admitted to possessing a firearm in a satchel across his chest.  Hermosillo-Lozano was detained without incident.  During a search, a loaded, concealed, Glock 26 9mm caliber firearm was located in the satchel.  The firearm was equipped with a “Glock switch” which converts a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic machine gun.

Hermosillo-Lozano was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on the following felony charges:

PC 32625(a) – Possession of a machine gun.
PC 25850(C)(6) - Possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm.
