Traffic Violation Leads to Recovery of Firearm
On May 11, 2024, at approximately 0255 hours, a Santa Rosa Police Officer was conducting patrol near Santa Rosa Avenue / Yolanda Avenue when he observed a vehicle code violation and conducted an enforcement stop. After contacting the vehicle’s occupants, the officer developed probable cause to conduct search of the vehicle. During the subsequent search, the officer located a satchel on the rear passenger seat which had previously been in possession of one of the occupants, 30-year-old Santa Rosa resident – Mateo Felipe Lopez. A search of the satchel revealed Lopez was in possession of a loaded 10 mm Glock handgun.Based on the investigation, Lopez was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail for the following charges:
- 25400(a)(1) PC – Concealed Firearm in a Vehicle
- 25850(c)(6) PC – Possession of an Unregistered Firearm
