SRPD News Release:
High school student arrested for manufacturing firearms
On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at approximately 11:00 am, detectives with the Santa Rosa Police Department Gang Crimes Team served a search warrant at a residence in the 2300 block of Summer Creek Drive, Santa Rosa. The search warrant was the result of an ongoing investigation of a 14-year-old male suspected of manufacturing firearms with a 3D printer.
During the search of the juvenile’s residence, detectives located a 3D printer, a lower receiver for a firearm, a partially completed firearm handle, ammunition, and gang paraphernalia. The gang paraphernalia consisted mostly of drawings and handwritten items. Detectives learned the juvenile, a Montgomery High School Student, was in attendance at school while the search warrant was being served. Based on the student’s accessibility to firearms, the plainclothes detectives immediately responded to the campus and requested a teacher discreetly remove the student from class. Once the student was outside of the class, he was taken into custody without incident and transported to juvenile hall.
Detectives then searched the student’s locker where additional gang paraphernalia was located. No weapons were located in the student’s locker or his possession at the time of his arrest.
The 14-year-old male student was arrested for the following charges:
23920(b) PC - Possession of an unserialized firearm
29610(a) PC - Minor in possession of a handgun
29010 PC - Unlawful manufacture of a firearm
186.22(d) - Gang enhancement
