SRPD News Release: Santa Rosa Police Arrest Juveniles Following Extensive Vandalism at Closed Brook Hill Elementary School
Santa Rosa Police Arrest Juveniles Following Extensive Vandalism at Closed Brook Hill Elementary School
On October 9, 2026, officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) arrested six juveniles and identified a seventh juvenile suspect in connection with a major vandalism and burglary investigation at Brook Hill Elementary School, located at 1850 Vallejo Street. This is a Santa Rosa City Schools campus that has been closed since June 2025.
On Friday, October 9, 2026, at approximately 6:18 p.m., SRPD officers responded to Brook Hill Elementary School after a community member reported multiple juveniles unlawfully entering the campus and causing damage. As officers arrived, several suspects fled in different directions. Most of the suspects attempted to run from officers, resulting in several foot pursuits before they were safely detained without further incident. Seven juveniles have now been identified as suspects in the case. Six were arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall on charges including burglary, felony vandalism, and conspiracy. A seventh juvenile was later identified and cited and released to his parents.
During a search of the campus, officers discovered extensive damage across multiple buildings, including administrative offices, classrooms, the library, and other campus facilities. Investigators documented widespread destruction, including shattered windows, damaged electronics, vandalized classrooms, destroyed televisions, extensive paint damage, damage to network infrastructure, and other costly property damage. Initial estimates indicate the damage likely exceeds $100,000 and may substantially exceed that amount as damage assessments continue.
Earlier on October 9, an SRPD Field and Evidence Technician had already responded to a separate vandalism incident at the campus. Because Brook Hill Elementary is a closed school site, some damage discovered during the evening response had occurred before the burglary and vandalism incident that resulted in the arrests. Working alongside Santa Rosa City Schools personnel, investigators compared observations from the earlier investigation with the newly discovered damage and determined that while some damage pre-dated the evening incident, the vast majority of the destruction documented that night was newly inflicted. All Santa Rosa City Schools campuses, including closed school sites, are equipped with operational security camera systems. The footage obtained is being reviewed for information related to these investigations.
Detectives with the SRPD Property Crimes Investigations (PCI) Team are actively investigating both incidents. Detectives are working to determine whether any of the juveniles arrested during the October 9 evening incident were also involved in the earlier vandalism event and whether additional suspects may have participated in either crime.
The Santa Rosa Police Department would like to thank the community members who promptly reported suspicious activity at the school. Their willingness to call police in real time allowed officers to respond quickly, detain multiple suspects, and preserve important evidence that may otherwise have been lost.
SRPD also recognizes the strong and ongoing partnership between the Police Department and Santa Rosa City Schools. Through collaboration between school district staff, maintenance personnel, information technology staff, and investigators, significant progress has already been made in documenting the damage and advancing the investigation.
Finally, we respectfully encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children about the importance of respecting schools and other community property. Acts of vandalism place an additional financial burden on an already resource-constrained school district and ultimately impact the entire community. Our schools belong to all of us, and we ask for everyone's help in protecting these important public assets.
