SRPD Announces Community Gun Buyback Event on October 3
The Santa Rosa Police Department will host a community gun buyback event on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building, 1351 Maple Avenue, Santa Rosa. The event provides residents with a safe, anonymous, and convenient way to dispose of unwanted firearms while helping improve community safety.
Community members may exchange qualifying, functional firearms for cash:
- $250 for ghost guns (privately made firearms)
- $250 for assault weapons
- $150 for functional handguns, rifles, and shotguns
The event is designed to be simple and anonymous. Participants should transport unloaded firearms in the trunk of their vehicle and remain inside their vehicle upon arrival. A Santa Rosa police officer will safely remove the firearm from the trunk. No identification is required, and no questions will be asked regarding the firearm's origin.
The Santa Rosa Police Department will oversee the collection and destruction of all firearms received. All firearms collected during the event will be destroyed and will not be repurposed or resold.
No public funds or City of Santa Rosa funds will be used for this event. The Santa Rosa Police Foundation is raising and providing all funds exchanged for firearms. The Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting public safety initiatives and strengthening partnerships between law enforcement and the community. Learn more about the Santa Rosa Police Foundation here.
This event is one part of the Santa Rosa Police Department's broader strategy to reduce gun violence and improve public safety. Removing unwanted and unsecured firearms from homes can help prevent accidental shootings, reduce the risk of firearms being stolen and used in crimes, and provide community members with a responsible disposal option.
The department last conducted a gun buyback event in October 2022, collecting 438 firearms, including assault weapons and ghost guns. That event was also fully funded through the Santa Rosa Police Foundation.
Residents with unwanted or inherited firearms are encouraged to participate and help make the Santa Rosa community safer.
