SRPD News Release: Traffic Collision Investigation Involving Child Pedestrian

Traffic Collision Investigation Involving Child Pedestrian

On August 18, 2026, at approximately 8:28 p.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) Communications Center received numerous 911 calls about a vehicle colliding with a child crossing the street in the 900 block of Yulupa Avenue.

The child, a 9-year-old boy, was struck by a white Ford Mustang as he crossed Yulupa Avenue. The Mustang was being driven south on Yulupa Avenue by a 41-year-old male resident of Santa Rosa. The child sustained significant injuries and was transported to a regional trauma center by ambulance.

SRPD Accident Investigators and Field Evidence Technicians responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision, and investigators are working to determine the vehicle’s speed at the time of the collision. Accident Investigators believe the child was in a marked crosswalk when he was struck, and they are currently investigating if the crosswalk lights were activated.

The investigation is ongoing. Information contained in this release is preliminary and may change as additional facts are developed. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information is encouraged to contact Accident Investigator Anthony Matteri at amatteri@srcity.org.
