Seven Santa Rosa Police Officers Honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for DUI Enforcement 

Seven Santa Rosa Police Department officers were recognized this week at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Northern California Annual Law Enforcement Recognition Ceremony in Roseville for their outstanding commitment to removing impaired drivers from our roadways and keeping the community safe. 

The annual ceremony brought together hundreds of law enforcement officers from across Northern California to honor exceptional DUI enforcement efforts and hear powerful impact statements from victims and families whose lives have been forever changed by impaired driving. To qualify for recognition, an officer must make at least 25 DUI arrests during the calendar year. 

In 2025, the Santa Rosa Police Department made 614 DUI arrests, with the seven honored officers accounting for 361of those arrests, nearly 60 percent of the department's total. 

The 2025 MADD honorees from the Santa Rosa Police Department are: 

• Officer Anthony Matteri – 141 DUI arrests 

• Officer Brenden Sawyer – 49 DUI arrests 

• Officer Chase McIntyre – 41 DUI arrests 

• Officer John Fisher – 39 DUI arrests 

• Officer Hannah Combs – 35 DUI arrests 

• Officer Diego Ascencio – 31 DUI arrests 

• Officer Mike Mieger – 25 DUI arrests 

In addition to being recognized as a MADD award recipient, Officer Anthony Matteri received two distinguished honors: the Outstanding Officer Award for recording the third-highest number of DUI arrests in all of Northern California and the prestigious Century Award for making more than 100 DUI arrests during the year. 

"Every impaired driver removed from our roads represents a potential tragedy prevented," said Chief John Cregan. "These officers have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to protecting our community through proactive DUI enforcement. Their dedication, professionalism, and vigilance have undoubtedly saved lives, and we are proud to see their efforts recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving." 

The Santa Rosa Police Department's commitment to traffic safety extends beyond DUI enforcement. For decades, the department has prioritized reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities through high-visibility enforcement, public education, collision reduction strategies, and specialized traffic enforcement. Whether targeting impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, or other dangerous behaviors, SRPD has consistently invested personnel and resources into making Santa Rosa's roadways safer for everyone. Recent investments, including four grant-funded patrol vehicles dedicated exclusively to DUI enforcement, build upon that long-standing commitment and enhance the department's ability to proactively address impaired driving throughout the community.  

The recognition of these seven officers reflects that enduring organizational priority. Their efforts are part of a broader department-wide strategy focused on preventing crashes before they occur, protecting vulnerable road users, and holding impaired drivers accountable. Every DUI arrest represents an opportunity to prevent a tragedy, and the Santa Rosa Police Department remains committed to working toward safer streets through education, enforcement, and strong community partnerships.
