Traffic Stop on Bicyclist Leads to Recovery of Loaded Firearm
On June 13, 2026, at approximately 12:38 a.m., a Santa Rosa Police Officer conducted an enforcement stop in the 400 block of Boyd Street on a bicyclist for a vehicle code violation.
The suspect, identified as Andrew Garcia-Silva, a 21-year-old Santa Rosa resident, was observed wearing a cross-body bag. During the contact with Garcia-Silva, the officer noticed the bag was unzipped with the handle of a firearm visibly protruding from the opening.
The officer attempted to detain Garcia-Silva; however, Garcia-Silva fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Garcia-Silva was safely detained without further incident. The firearm was recovered and determined to be loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Garcia-Silva was not the registered owner of the firearm. The investigation is ongoing to determine how Garcia-Silva obtained the weapon.
Garcia-Silva was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:
- 25850(a) PC — Carrying a loaded firearm in public
- 25400(a)(2) PC — Carrying a concealed firearm on his person
- 148(a)(1) PC — Resisting arrest
