SRPD News Release: 2026 Torch Run for Special Olympics
2026 Torch Run for Special Olympics
Today, the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) proudly took part in the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). Known as the “Guardians of the Flame,” participants carry the Flame of Hope to help ignite the opening ceremonies at Special Olympics events, symbolizing courage, inclusion, and community.
After receiving the torch from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office last night, almost thirty SRPD runners hit the pavement this morning to cover the more than five miles from Santa Rosa to Rohnert Park. We were honored to be joined by Mayor Mark Stapp and other City of Santa Rosa employees on the run. At the hand-off location, the torch was ceremonially passed from SRPD leadership to our partners at the California Highway Patrol. The energy, support, and teamwork on display made this year’s run especially meaningful.
The Torch Run is more than a relay…it’s part of a year-round commitment to supporting Special Olympics Northern California athletes. Through fundraisers like the annual Santa Rosa Golf Tournament and other department-led initiatives, SRPD personnel have raised more than $50,000 over the past two years to show their dedication to inclusion and opportunity for all.
Thank you to everyone who cheers us on, donates, and supports this incredible cause. Together, we are helping carry the Flame of Hope forward.
