Suspect Arrested Following Series of Assaults, Threats, and Vandalism Incidents
On May 13, 2026, at approximately 6:18 p.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting that a male subject was assaulting a woman near the intersection of Mendocino Avenue and Pacific Avenue.
Officers responded to the area and were given a description of the suspect as a Caucasian adult male wearing a black and white hoodie. As officers canvassed the area, witnesses directed them toward Nason Street. Officers quickly located the suspect and detained him without incident. He was identified as Liam Isaac Kolling, a 28-year-old resident of Kenwood. Shortly after Kolling was detained, officers learned this assault was just one of a series of crimes Kolling was responsible for in the area.
Through the investigation, officers learned Kolling had been released from jail shortly after 4:00 p.m. on pre-trial supervision and was walking toward downtown Santa Rosa on Mendocino Avenue. Prior to the reported assault, Kolling confronted another woman near a bus stop in front of Santa Rosa Junior College. During that encounter, he threatened to kill the victim while holding a broken glass bottle to her hip and continued to pursue the victim as she attempted to escape to safety on a Sonoma County Transit bus. Kolling was held back by a witness and removed from the bus by the bus driver.
Kolling then approached a group of individuals at the intersection of Mendocino Avenue and Pacific Avenue and began aggressively shoving a different female victim before leaving the toward Nason Street. Immediately following the multiple assaults, Kolling used a large stick to strike the windshield of a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Nason Street, causing significant damage. When confronted by the owner of the vehicle, Kolling threatened him before fleeing back toward Mendocino Avenue. SRPD officers arrived shortly after and detained Kolling. Fortunately, no one was injured during these incidents.
Officers learned Kolling had been released from the Sonoma County Jail approximately two hours prior to these incidents and was on pre-trial supervision at the time.
Kolling was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for the following offenses:
- 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a deadly weapon
- 422(a) PC – Criminal threats to injure or kill
- 166(a)(4) PC – Violation of a court order
- 594(a)(2) PC – Felony vandalism
- 12022.1(b) PC – Commit new felony while on pre-trial release
We would like to extend our appreciation to the community members who acted quickly by calling 911 and stepping in to help those involved move away from the suspect. Their awareness and willingness to assist played an important role in ensuring officers were able to respond quickly and effectively. SRPD also recognizes the coordinated efforts of responding officers who worked together to locate and safely detain the suspect without further incident.
Santa Rosa Police Department case number 26-4988.
