SRPD News Release: Elderly man carjacked
Elderly man carjacked
On April 10, 2026, at approximately 8:14 a.m., officers responded to a reported carjacking near Brookwood Drive and 3rd Street. Upon arrival, they located a victim suffering from a head injury. The 68-year-old victim reported being struck in the head by a suspect who took his car keys from him and got into the driver’s seat of his vehicle. The victim was able to pull the suspect out of the vehicle and then the male suspect fled the scene on foot.
A witness provided officers with a detailed description of the suspect, noting he was wearing a gray sweater, black pants, yellow socks, and carrying a teal backpack. Following a search of the area, officers located the suspect behind a residence in the 1000 block of 4th Street.
The suspect, identified as Shawn Lopez of San Francisco, was positively identified by the witness and taken into custody. Investigators determined that Lopez was a recent release from a San Francisco County jail and was currently in violation of his probation for failing to report.
Lopez was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on the following charges:
- 215(a) P.C. – Carjacking
- 368(b)(1) P.C. – Elder abuse causing great bodily injury
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.
