Search Warrant Leads to Cocaine, MDMA, Counterfeit Pills and Weapons Seizure

In January 2026, the Santa Rosa Police Department Narcotics Team began an investigation into a person selling narcotics/controlled substances in Santa Rosa and its surrounding areas. Detectives identified the involved person as 23-year-old Cotati resident, Kevin Garcia-Ortiz.

On 3/30/26, at approximately 1:55 pm detectives from the SRPD Narcotics Team and Property Crimes Team, and officers from the SRPD Downtown Enforcement Team (DET), detained Garcia-Ortiz, pursuant to a search warrant, after he exited his vehicle in the 300 block of E. Washington St, Petaluma, CA.

Detectives and DET officers responded to the 8100 block of Olof St, Cotati, and executed the service of a search warrant at that location. No contraband was located.

Detectives and DET officers responded to the 5600 block of Old Redwood Hwy, Penngrove and executed the service of a search warrant at that location. Detectives searched that location and found a loaded semi-automatic privately manufactured 9mm handgun and a Springfield XD-9 9mm handgun. Additionally, approximately 2000 counterfeit Adderall pills, approximately  one pound of suspected cocaine, eight ounces of suspected MDMA, and 200 counterfeit Oxycodone pills (M30’s).

The counterfeit Adderall pills are believed to contain methamphetamine and/or fentanyl. The counterfeit Oxycodone pills are believed to contain fentanyl. Two milligrams of fentanyl is considered a lethal dose. It is unknown how much fentanyl is in each pill.

There were thousands of empty capsules that are often filled with an amount of MDMA for oral ingestion. There were also thousands of new 1x1 ziplok baggies often used to package illicit narcotics/controlled substances. Three digital scales were also located.

Garcia-Ortiz is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. He was also on active felony probation out of Sonoma County for a prior drug sales case.

Garcia-Ortiz was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County jail for the following violations:

  • 11351 H&S – Possession of a Narcotic for Sale.
