SRPD News Release: UPDATE (2/28) - Missing Adult at Risk

2/28/2023 - 10:58 AM

Update 2/28/2023 at 11:00am

Lawrence (aka "Larry") Atchison is still missing and search/rescue operations are still underway. SRPD detectives, with the assistance of local residents, located residential surveillance footage that showed Larry walking in the area of Summerfield Rd and Carissa Avenue at 4:15 pm yesterday (2/27).

Larry is a 64-year-old white male, 6'00" tall, 200 pounds, with grey hair and brown eyes. Larry was last seen wearing a black Columbia jacket without a hood, dark blue jeans, and black slip-on shoes.

Overnight
The SonomaCounty Search and Rescue Team searched until 1:30am, but SRPD maintained the search all night with several officers that were held over from the original shifts. Drones were deployed to search the neighborhoods and cover more ground than foot patrols could. Additional air support and searching were conducted by a Sonoma County Fire helicopter. Our Violent Crime Team (who is responsible for missing adult investigations) took over the investigation. They worked with CHP and a Silver Alert was sent out early this morning. The Santa Rosa Fire Department and the SOnoma County Sheriff's Office also assisted with the initial search.

Tuesday Morning
With the SRPD Violent Crime Team leading the investigation, Sonoma County Search and Rescue resumed their search at 8:00 am with numerous volunteers. Tracking dog K-9 Gremly from California Rescue Dog Association is currently assisting with searching neighborhoods where Larry was last seen. SRPD Detectives, Downtown Enforcement Officers, Motorcycle Officers, and SRPD Volunteers (VIPS) are currently searching Bennett Valley and Annadel State Park.

How You Can Help
If you live in the area of Leafwood Circle, Carissa Av, Summerfield Rd, or adjoining areas, please check all personal/residential surveillance footage for images of Larry. This will allow officers and detectives to track Larry’s direction. Additionally, please check your backyards, unlocked vehicles, sheds (outbuildings), and underneath decks/patios. Larry may have stopped and rested but now is lost. If you locate any footage of Larry or if you have seen Larry, please contact the SRPD Communication Center at 707-528-5222.
