Traffic stop leads to gun being found followed by a search warrant at the driver’s residence.

On Friday, January 13, 2023 at approximately 1:30 p.m., a Santa Rosa Police Officer driving in the area of Farmers Ln. and Sonoma Ave. observed a vehicle code violation on a Volkswagen Passat. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop and as he approached the vehicle, the officer could see a male and female in the vehicle and he smelled the overwhelming odor of freshly burnt marijuana. The officer conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located a loaded .357 Magnum revolver inside a hidden compartment. Also located in the vehicle was a scale commonly used in narcotic use and sales. The scale had narcotic residue on it. With this and other information learned during the officer’s initial investigation, SRPD Narcotics Detectives authored a search warrant for the driver’s residence located in the 6000-block of Highway 12, Santa Rosa.

During the service of the search warrant, detectives located over 3-pounds of suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms; a substantial amount of various calibers of ammunition; a small amount of suspected methamphetamine; equipment and packaging used in narcotic sales; and, additional firearms. The narcotic sales equipment included several scales, packaging supplies, and currency counters. The additional firearms were a .44 Magnum revolver and an fully automatic AR-15 rifle. None of the three firearms were registered to either occupant of the vehicle, who also reside together. Enrique Garcia-Jordan, a 26-year-old Santa Rosa resident, and Cheyanne Whitcomb, a 19-year-old woman also from Santa Rosa, were arrested and booked for numerous firearms and narcotics charges.

Whitcomb was charged with the following:

25850(c)(6) PC – Felony carrying of a loaded firearm in public when not the registered owner
25400(a)(1) PC – Felony carrying of a concealed firearm in a vehicle

Garcia-Jordan was charges with the following:

25850(c)(6) PC – Felony carrying of a loaded firearm in public when not the registered owner
25400(a)(1) PC – Felony carrying of a concealed firearm in a vehicle
11378 HS – Felony possession of narcotics with the intent to sell
30605 PC – Felony possession of an assault weapon
32625(a) PC – Felony transportation of a machine gun

Because of the type of weaponry Garcia-Jordan possessed, and because it is believed he intended to sell a large amount of illegal drugs in our community of Santa Rosa, an enhanced bail of $250,000 was requested and granted.
