SRPD News Release: Two Santa Rosa Residents Arrested for Narcotics Trafficking

Two Santa Rosa Residents Arrested for Narcotics Trafficking

On January 8, 2023, at 10:40 PM, a Santa Rosa Police Department patrol officer observed a black Acura sedan traveling northbound on Hwy 101 through Santa Rosa. The officer observed several traffic code violations and conducted an enforcement stop on the Acura. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Brandon Olguin (26 years old), and the passenger was identified as Brandon’s wife, Maria Olguin-Chavez (26 years old). Both are residents of Sonoma County.

The officer obtained a lawful reason to search the vehicle during the traffic stop. The patrol officer located several cell phones and 13 one-pound packages of suspected crystal methamphetamine. The suspected crystal methamphetamine was concealed inside a suitcase in the Acura’s trunk.

Detectives from the SRPD Narcotic Investigations Team were contacted and responded to the scene. Detectives later authored a search warrant for Brandon and Maria's residence in the 2300 block of Summercreek Drive and located evidence of narcotics sales.

Brandon and Maria were arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail for:

  • 11378 H&S – (Felony) Possession with the Intent to Sell Methamphetamine
  • 11379 H&S – (Felony) Transportation of Methamphetamine
  • 182 PC – (Felony) Conspiracy to Commit a Felony

The investigating detective noted that the eleven packages of suspected crystal methamphetamine were packaged consistently with methods used by drug trafficking organizations to avoid law enforcement detection.  Some of these methods include wrapping the drugs in several layers of packaging mixed with carbon paper and loose chili pepper.  The carbon paper is used in an attempt to avoid detection by X-ray machines, and the several layers of wrapping and the chili pepper are used to avoid K9 detection.
