SRPD News Release: SRPD officer-involved shooting following standoff with armed domestic violence suspect

SRPD officer-involved shooting following the standoff with armed domestic violence suspect

At approximately 10:12 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) responded to a residence in the 900 block of Keegan Drive, Santa Rosa, to investigate a report of a man armed with a gun involved in an act of domestic violence. As officers were arriving on scene, three adults and an infant had successfully self-evacuated from the residence. The victim, a 19-year-old female, is the ex-girlfriend of the suspect. The victim and suspect share a 2-month-old infant child. Both the victim and her infant were at her parents’ home. Both of her parents were home at the time the suspect entered the residence. Officers learned the suspect had “pistol-whipped” a female victim in the head. The suspect, a 20-year-old Santa Rosa resident, barricaded himself inside the home and refused instructions to peacefully surrender.

Officers continued to try to communicate with the suspect unsuccessfully. Members of the SRPD SWAT and Hostage Negotiations Team responded to the scene and assumed the negotiations at approximately midnight, August 14. The suspect ignored all attempts to communicate with officers. At approximately 4:55 a.m., after over six hours of barricading himself inside the residence, the suspect ran out of the house with a firearm in his hand in the direction of officers. Initial reports indicate that one SRPD SWAT officer fired at least one round at the suspect. Officers immediately began providing medical aid to the suspect, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. The suspect was pronounced deceased by an SRPD SWAT Tactical Medic at approximately 4:57 a.m. No officers were injured during this incident.

SRPD issued a shelter-in-place alert for area residents via the CivicReady alert system at approximately 11:15 p.m. The shelter-in-place was lifted at approximately 6:55 a.m.; however, police activity on Keegan Drive is expected to last for several hours.

The Santa Rosa Police Department invoked the Sonoma County Employee-Involved Critical Incident Protocol and requested the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office to lead an independent investigation into the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and is being actively conducted by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. The SCSO will release additional information regarding the investigation as it becomes available.
