City of Kirksville contributes funds to CAPNEMO childcare expansion project

(Kirksville, MO) - The City of Kirksville is pleased to present a check to Community Action Partnership of Northeast Missouri (CAPNEMO) to support its efforts to expand childcare services in the community.
Through a grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, CAPNEMO plans to renovate the former preschool it owns on Locust Street. This project will create additional infant and toddler daycare slots, addressing a critical need for more childcare options.
CAPNEMO sought additional community funds to complete this plan, and the City Council voted last year to allocate funds in its 2026 budget to support it. At Monday's City Council Meeting, CAPNEMO representatives received a $36,500 check. These funds come from the marijuana sales tax, as half of those collections go to community development.
We look forward to hearing more from CAPNEMO as this project gets underway.
