City of Kirksville congratulates Marcia VanLaningham on retirement after more than 24 years of service

(Kirksville, MO) - The City of Kirksville congratulates Marcia VanLaningham on her retirement after 24 years and five months of service.
VanLaningham began her career on January 14, 2002, as a Customer Service Clerk with the Finance Department. Through various changes in job duties and as the Finance Department grew, the position evolved into the current Account Clerk role.
As an Account Clerk, VanLaningham provided customer service for all types of City business and ensured interactions with the general public were positive. Additionally, she handled beginning and closing utility services, performed cash receipting, tracked City accounts receivable invoicing, tracked cash receipts and disbursements for the annual audit, managed boat permitting, and distributed water meters.
Along with her service, VanLaningham was an exceptional ambassador for Kirksville. She welcomed thousands of new residents with patience and kindness. For many of these customers, living independently and transitioning into adulthood were new experiences, and she helped them navigate the process with warm, courteous service.
She built a loyal fan base of utility customers who would only allow her to conduct their City business. Many would come back another day if she were busy helping others or at lunch. She listened and took a genuine interest in their stories, even asking about the outcomes during the following month’s utility cycle.
The City of Kirksville thanks VanLaningham for her service to the community and wishes her well in her next endeavors.
