City of Kirksville recognizes Public Works Week

Mayor Zac Burden presents a proclamation for Public Works Week with Public Works Director Adam Dorrell, Assistant Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Justin Franke, Street Superintendent Steve Taylor, and Deputy Public Works Director Rich Morrow.

(Kirksville, MO) - The City of Kirksville recognizes National Public Works Week from May 17 to May 23, 2026.

The City of Kirksville’s Public Works Department comprises six divisions: Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Utility Maintenance, Central Garage, Street Maintenance, and Administration.

Public Works professionals ensure drinkable water comes out of your faucet, your toilet flushes waste away, there are streets for residents to commute on, and that City vehicles can continue being of service. They focus on infrastructure, facilities, and services vital to the well-being of the people of Kirksville.

Some numbers to think about when it comes to Public Works:
  • More than 100 miles of City streets, 155 miles of water lines, and 100 miles of sewer mains are maintained by Public Works.
  • Residents combine to use approximately 2.4 million gallons of water each day, which is treated at the Water Treatment Plant before making its way to homes.
  • The Wastewater Treatment Plant treats approximately 3 million gallons of wastewater daily, sending clean water back into the environment.
  • There are 228 City vehicles and pieces of equipment across 11 departments maintained by Central Garage. Those include police cars, firetrucks, snowplows, street machinery, mowers, and more.
The City of Kirksville thanks the individuals who make up the Public Works Department for the work they do and the services they provide.
