TSA introducing new fee for travelers without approved ID

(Kirksville, MO) - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is introducing a new fee for travelers who don't have an approved form of identification for air travel.

Beginning February 1, anyone without a TSA-accepted ID, such as a REAL ID or passport, can pay $45 to receive a TSA ConfirmID, which will establish their identity at security checkpoints. That ID is then good for 10 days. Using TSA ConfirmID is optional. If you choose not to use it and don't have an acceptable ID, you may not be allowed through security and may miss your flight.

TSA estimates that approximately 94 percent of travelers have an acceptable form of ID to fly.

To learn more about this process, or to pay for the ConfirmID before arriving at an airport, visit Tsa.gov/confirmid.
