Today is the last day to file for the 2026 City Council election

(Kirksville, MO) - If you have been interested in serving your community as a member of the Kirksville City Council, 5:00 pm today is the deadline to file for the 2026 Municipal Election.

Interested residents can file in the City Clerk’s office on the second floor of City Hall. There are two full, three-year terms available in next year’s election.

To qualify, you must be 21 before taking office; a US citizen; a resident of Kirksville for one year preceding the election; and a registered voter. Anyone found guilty of, or pleaded guilty to, a felony does not qualify. Before filing, each person must complete a “Candidate’s Affidavit," Form 5120, with the Missouri Department of Revenue, affirming that all state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes, and real property taxes on their place of residence have been paid.
