Get ready to hit the seas with the Kids Cardboard Boat Race

(Kirksville, MO) - Save your cardboard boxes, gather some duct tape and put your creativity to the test as the Kids Cardboard Boat Race sails back into the Kirksville Aquatic Center next month.

This year’s race will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, brought to you by the Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department and Sparklight.

Children ages 5 to 16 can sign up as individuals or as a team of up to four people and test their sailing skills in this maritime tradition. Participants will attempt to paddle across the pool and back in their homemade boats, constructed entirely with cardboard, duct tape and water-based paint. Teams will compete in age divisions based on the mean age of the team, and all participants will compete for prizes in categories such as Fastest Time, Best Design and the infamous Titanic Award.

This event is free to all participants and spectators. Register today at https://apps.daysmartrecreation.com/dash/index.php?Action=Auth/login&company=kirksville. Full race rules here: https://forms.gle/sVEt9YmaaP44WGJ57.
