Helpful tips for tackling leaves this fall
(Kirksville, MO) - Leaves have started falling in several areas around Kirksville. When blown into the street, leaves can clog storm drains, causing water to pool in those areas, and create hazards for motorists and cyclists. Leaves and yard waste can also pollute local waterways once they exit the stormwater system.
Here are some helpful ways to prevent those issues from happening:
- Rake them. You can collect and bag leaves and find a provider to dispose of them. Leaves can also be left at the City brush site for Kirksville residents.
- Mow them. Mulching leaves can help feed your lawn naturally.
- Compost them. You can make great food for your soil or garden.
Keep an eye on storm drains in your area to see if they are clogged with leaves or other debris. You can notify the Public Works Department by submitting a Citizen Service Request at Kirksville.gov/311/request/add.
