Don’t miss one of Sandy’s most colorful and anticipated events of the year! The 18th Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival returns with morning launches, a glowing evening celebration, and fun for all ages. This event is free and open to the public.

Event Details

Early Morning Hot Air Balloon Launches: (weather permitting)

• Dates: Friday & Saturday, August 8 & 9
• Time: Sunrise (approximately 6:30 a.m.)
• Location: Storm Mountain Park - 980 East 11400 South
• Highlights:
  • Tethered balloon rides (first come, first served) soaring 50–80 feet in the air
  • Food trucks and a morning DJ
  • Free latex balloons for children
  • A vibrant photo-worthy experience as balloons take flight (weather permitting)

Saturday Evening Glow Event: What’s a Balloon Glow? When the hot air balloons remain on the ground, and the burner is ignited creating the balloons to illuminate in the dark!

• Date: Saturday, August 9
• Time: 7:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
• Location: City Promenade - 10000 S. Centennial Parkway
• Highlights:
  • Hot Air Balloon Glow — watch balloons light up against the night sky
  • Glow-in-the-dark cotton candy
  • Food trucks and DJ dance party
  • Bounce houses, free face painting, balloon twisting and a Mammoth Hockey street hockey rink.
  • A spectacular drone show at 10:00 p.m. (weather may alter start time)

 

Important Reminders

• This is a free community event.
• No personal drones or dogs allowed at the event sites.
• No smoking or vaping.
• Sandy City is not permitted to coordinate private balloon rides.
• Follow Sandy City’s Social Media for live weather updates and announcements throughout the festival.

Make sure you bring your cameras this weekend, because the Sandy Balloon Festival Photo Contest is back! Here's how to participate:

1. Tag us in your photos/videos on Instagram (@sandycityutah)
2. We'll share your post on our Instagram Story
3. Scroll through our Story and "like" photos to vote for them
4. At the end of the weekend, the photos that receive the most votes will be the winners.

Four winners will all receive a Balloon Fest T-shirt and a pair of tickets to Hale Centre Theatre.
