Annexation Deadline Extended

SandyNow - Annexation 2026

Deadline to Annex Extended to Monday at 2:00

If you live in the uncorported Salt Lake County area known as Granite, you face an important choice that could impact your tax rate and your services.

Act now while you have a choice.

If you’re a property owner in the unincorporated area adjacent to Sandy City, you can choose for yourself whether to annex into Sandy City or remain in the unincorporated area. But that may change as soon as this Monday, March 30, 2026. There are two reasons for this deadline:

  1. Under State law, once Salt Lake County holds the second hearing on the proposed incorporation of Granite Town, the boundaries of the area become fixed, and no further annexations are allowed. The date set for the second hearing is May 6, 2026.
  2. State law also requires a 30-day period between the time the City Council approves a Resolution of Intent to Annex and a final vote on that annexation. Because of those State imposed deadlines, the last day to file a request for annexation, that could be voted upon before the date of the second hearing, would be Monday, March 30.

This may be your last opportunity to choose your tax rate and who provides your services.

In a nutshell, the window of opportunity closes Thursday. If you do not act now to annex into Sandy City, you may no longer have the opportunity to choose. Under state law, the boundaries will become fixed. After Monday, March 30, 2026, the future of the unincorporated areas within the Granite community area, along with the property tax rate they will pay, will likely be decided by a majority vote of the residents of the proposed Granite Town, rather than each individual property owner.

Calculate your tax rate

According to the Granite Community Council’s own assessment, here is a comparison of property taxes on the average home value of $1,328,661.
