The City of Oakland OakDOT Crossing Guard 2025-26 Re-Activation Letter

City of Oakland/OakDOT School Crossing Guards 2025/26 School Year Re-Activation Letter

Dear City of Oakland School Crossing Guard Employee,
This letter confirms both your acceptance and your appointment to serve in the temporary capacity of School Crossing Guard in the Oakland Department of Transportation for the defined term of the 2025/2026 school year.

The 2025/2026 OUSD school year will commence on Monday August 11th. Regular work hours of two-hour shifts, (two hours in the AM, and two hours in the PM), are in effect as per the Crossing Guard Shift Hours Protocols. Post assignments will be established at the orientation meetings, during the roll call or after the Orientation Process.

The Annual Crossing Guard Orientation and Re-appointment Process is scheduled for Wednesday August 6th and Thursday August 7th. We are a large group, so in order to maintain the quality and efficiency of the Orientation Sessions, we must split the Crossing Guards into two groups for two different sessions.

Attendance at the Orientation meeting is mandatory for the reappointment process. All information and paperwork required for returning to work will be provided at the Orientation. The location for the meeting will be 7101 Edgewater Drive, Building 2 Lion’s Creek Board Room. (Note: This is the room where we have met to do trainings and orientations. It is located next to the Computer Room where we enter time in Oracle. If you have any questions about exact location, do not hesitate to call.)

You will be attending only one of these meetings depending on the first letter of your last name. You will be paid four hours for attending the Orientation Session. You may leave after the Orientation is over but only upon confirmation that the following conditions have been satisfied:
  • 1) You are having no issues with accessing your Oracle account.
  • 2) You are having no issues with accessing your Outlook email account.
  • 3) You have activated MFA (Multi-Factored Authorization) on your phone and other personal computing devices at home.
  • 4) You have created a new password with stricter requirements. Those who are still missing any one of these four items will be staying on for further troubleshooting.

NOTE: To expedite any technical login issues, you should call 510-238-2000 beforehand.

Guards whose last names begin with the letters A through K should attend the Orientation Session on Wednesday, August 6th, 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Guards whose last names begin with the letters L through Z should attend the Orientation Session on Thursday, August 7th, 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

NOTE:
Depending on your transportation circumstances, exceptions to which day you attend may be allowed. To do this you must call to request the alternate meeting day. If you cannot attend either of these mandatory training sessions, you must notify the Crossing Guard Supervisor immediately in order to work out a suitable resolution.

Uniform and/or equipment: Replacement of the following mandatory items (signs, vests, and whistles only) will be handled at the end of the Orientation meeting. Other standard-issue items (hats, jackets and rain gear) will be resolved during on-duty post visits after school is back in session.

A Union representative from 1021 may also be attending the Orientation meetings.

Best Regards,
Paul Cirolia
