URGENT: Importance of Remaining at Your Assigned Crossing Guard Post

Greetings Crossing Guards,

I want to remind everyone of the importance of being present at your assigned post for your ENTIRE scheduled shift. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you anticipate arriving late or need to leave early, you MUST notify me in advance. You are not permitted to adjust your scheduled hours without notifying me.

Yesterday, a child was struck by a vehicle and is currently hospitalized. This unfortunate incident occurred just minutes before the crossing guard's scheduled shift was over. Thankfully, the crossing guard was still at their assigned post and was able to witness everything that occurred.

This incident is a serious reminder of why every single minute of your shift matters. Accidents can happen at any time, including the final minutes of your shift. Your responsibility is not only to help students cross safely but also to assist the general public.

Please remember your required work hours:

  • Morning Shift: 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
  • Afternoon Shift (Regular Days): 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Afternoon Shift (Minimum Days): 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM

These hours are mandatory, with NO EXCEPTIONS unless previously authorized. Even if the busiest school crossing period has ended, you are expected to remain at your assigned post until your shift officially ends. You should not be waiting inside the school or leaving your post early.
