Director Field Day

Hello Crossing Guards,

Due to some of the recent incidents and the additional attention our program has received, the Director of Safe Streets would like to take this opportunity to become more familiar with the Crossing Guard Program and, most importantly, get to know all of you who are out there serving our schools and students every day!

Earlier this week, I shared a list of everyone’s assigned school and post locations with the Director. He just got back to me and let me know that he and his assistant will be conducting a Crossing Guard Program Field Tour over the next 2–4 weeks. They will be visiting posts throughout Oakland and will try their best to meet everyone. He will keep me updated as they make their way through the list.

When they stop by your post, please introduce yourself! I also encourage you to share how long you have been a Crossing Guard with the City. We have guards who have dedicated many years to this program, and I’m sure they will be very impressed to hear about your experience and dedication.

This is also a very important reminder to please call the Call-Out Line whenever you are not going to be at your post. I need to make sure I can notify your school administration and keep the Director updated so they do not make a trip out to a post when the Crossing Guard is absent.

I may also join them for a few of the introductory visits, so you might see me out there with them as well!

I think it’s great that our Director wants to spend time in the field, see the program firsthand, and personally meet the Crossing Guards who make it happen.

As always, I am available if you need anything or need assistance. Please don’t hesitate to call me at 510-919-3514.

Thank you again for everything you do and for keeping our students safe!
