Storm Update: Nor'easter Will Continue to Affect Provincetown Today & Tomorrow

The Nor’easter will continue to affect Provincetown today and tomorrow.

The strongest winds and heaviest rain are expected in Provincetown this morning through this afternoon and evening.

Several gusts near 60 mph were recorded overnight. Gusts of 45–55 mph may continue today before easing Sunday. A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday. Heavier bands of rain are expected later today, with storm totals of 3–5 inches possible from Boston south through the Cape and Islands. Rain should turn to showers after tonight.

A Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect through Sunday evening. Flooding and erosion may occur over several high tides, particularly this afternoon, tonight and Sunday afternoon. Water may not fully drain between tides. Rain could also cause flooding in low-lying or poor-drainage areas, including parts of the West End.

Continue to avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions and stay away from beaches, piers, breakwaters and exposed shorelines. Never drive through a flooded road.

A marine Storm Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. tonight, with offshore seas of 15–25 feet. Assume any downed wire is live: stay away and call 911. Report power outages to Eversource at 1-800-592-2000.

If your power goes out, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. An unopened refrigerator generally keeps food cold for about four hours. A full, unopened freezer may keep food frozen for about 48 hours, or about 24 hours if half-full.

No local or regional shelter is scheduled to open at this time. The Town and County will reassess if conditions change. Barnstable County Emergency Management remains available to coordinate resources and is monitoring conditions through the weekend. The Cape Cod Cooperative Extension’s Coastal Processes Team is also documenting flooding and erosion; photos and reports can be viewed through MyCoast Massachusetts.

Recreational shellfishing in Provincetown’s East End remains closed under the Commonwealth’s precautionary storm closure until further notice.
