Town of Telluride: West Colorado Ave Traffic Pattern

West Colorado Avenue | New Turn Lanes, Permanent Parking Changes and Spring 2027 Improvements

Striping underway this week; Clark's Market turn lane scheduled for spring 2027

The Town of Telluride Public Works Department is completing roadway striping on West Colorado Avenue near South Davis Street, Clark's Market and Telluride Middle/High School, weather permitting.

The improvements include new center turn lanes, updated traffic markings and permanent parking changes designed to improve traffic flow and safety along this busy stretch of roadway.

What's Changing Now

  • New center turn lanes: Westbound drivers turning left onto Davis Street, Tomboy Street and the Canyonlands entrance will have dedicated space to wait without blocking through traffic.
  • Permanent parking removal: Parking on the north side of West Colorado Avenue between Cornet Street and Davis Street is permanently prohibited to accommodate the new traffic pattern. This area will also serve as snow storage during winter.
  • Updated road markings: New striping will guide drivers through the Davis Street intersection and along the widened roadway.

Parking Permit Changes: Residents living on the north side of West Colorado Avenue between Cornet Street and Davis Street are now eligible for Town of Telluride G parking permits. Current A permit holders on this block who wish to switch to a G permit can contact the Telluride Marshal's Department at marshals@telluride.gov.

Coming Spring 2027: Clark's Market Turn Lane
The planned westbound left-turn lane into Clark's Market will be completed next spring.

Crews encountered existing utilities along the south side of Colorado Avenue that prevented the roadway from being widened enough to accommodate the turn lane this fall.

Public Works will return in spring 2027 to widen the north side of West Colorado Avenue between the bus stop and school entrance. Until then, standard centerline striping will remain in place through this section.

Why These Improvements Matter
The project is part of the Town's Southwest Area Conceptual Plan (SWAP) and related traffic improvements identified through the Southwest Area Traffic Impact Study.

The improvements are intended to reduce congestion near South Davis Street, Clark's Market and the school by providing dedicated space for turning vehicles and reducing traffic backups.

The work also builds on recent sidewalk, crosswalk and accessibility improvements along the south side of Colorado Avenue.

What to Expect

  • Daytime striping operations with brief lane closures and flaggers
  • Permanent no-parking restrictions on the north side of West Colorado Avenue between Cornet Street and Davis Street
  • Additional roadway widening and construction in spring 2027

Work schedules may change due to weather and site conditions. Please follow posted signs and traffic control instructions.

Thank you for your patience as we complete these improvements.
