Google Fiber to begin construction
Google Fiber is planning to begin construction this week. The information below was provided by Google Fiber regarding their construction processes and impact to neighborhoods. Additionally, because the City received questions from many SunCrest residents regarding the feasibility of Google Fiber offering service in that area, we inquired and Google Fiber said the infrastructure investment would be tremendous, thus it is not part of their current plans. Decisions about service areas and fees are solely determined by Google Fiber. Draper City does not have any control over service area decisions.
Google Fiber FAQ
In some cities, Google is able to use existing fiber for part or all of their network. But for most cities this requires building a new network, which means laying thousands of new miles of fiber in the ground. While Google construction crews work hard to move quickly, reduce disruption, and restore roads and property, the possibility for construction-related inconveniences remains.
What to expect during construction?
Normal construction is expected to occur between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM daily.
In most cases, block by block construction is completed in less than one week upon entering your neighborhood. However, sometimes construction will take longer, depending on a variety of factors.
Door hanger notifications are issued to all homes impacted by permitted construction. Street construction cones and signage with "No Parking" signs/cones and dates of construction are placed at least two (2) days before work begins, and only after permits are activated. Signs will be removed within one (1) day of completing restoration work efforts.
Some homes will see an inground vault placed in the softscape of the City's right-of-way. These vaults are critical to bring fiber to your and your neighbor's homes. All vault placements include restoration of the ground adjacent.
Where is Google Fiber being installed?
Google Fiber does not produce/publicize maps of service areas as it can be deemed sensitive for competitive advantage. Draper City has created a map that will be continually updated as permits are approved to show areas where construction will occur.
Is there a Construction Hotline?
The Google Fiber construction hotline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please call 1 (877) 454-6959.
